Apr 19, 2018A.A.C.P, the Black Authors Club, the City of Marshall and others.Willie Ruth ScottMARSHALL, TEXAS Willie Ruth Scott, born to the late Dr. William and Cleo Joshua Howard in Shreveport, Louisiana, passed away peacefully in Marshall, Texas on April 16, 2018. She was 100 years old.Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Sadie and her husband, Dr. George M. Scott, Sr. whome she delclared wasthe love of my life.Mrs. Scott was a beloved and inspiring English teacher, talented musician, and leading community member who inspired many of Marshall's young people to achievement and success.The couple had three children: Barinetta (Bari), George Marshall. Jr., and Merrill Mitchell, Sr; four grandchildren; Tameron, Merrill, Thais and Tamika; one great grandchild, Ella Grace Scott; spouses: Mary Scott, Jan Zelenek, Satin Scott and William Schrambling, and many more relatives and dear friends.Growing up in Shreveport, she was privately educated at the Tate School and graduated from Central High School. She then attended Wiley College in Marshall, Texas, where she studied music. She received a B.A. degree in English, then further advanced her music education at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee and Speights Music Conservatory in Newark, New Jersey.The Viewing will be Friday, April 20, 2018 from 3:00pm - 7:00pm at Peoples Funeral Home, 1301 West Grand Avenue, Marshall, Texas.Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018, 1:00pm at the Julius S. Scott, Sr. Chapel, Wiley College, 711 Wiley Avenue, Marshall, Texas. Dr. Larry Hygh, Jr. will bring the Eulogy. Because of her love for music and support of the Accappella Choir of Wiley, they will perform selections in honor of Mrs. Scott.Mrs. Scott taught English and Literature for 23 years, first at Pemberton, then at Marshall High School. She also led adult education courses at Wiley College.Mrs. Scott was a life-long member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She served for several years as their dedicated musician. She volunt...
